How to keep your Prostate healthy
While there are factors that affect our prostate health that we cannot change (age, family history), there are things we can do to promote prostate health.
Eat more vegetables and fruits
Vegetables and fruits contain many vitamins, minerals, fiber, antioxidants, and phytochemicals (plant nutrients). In combination, these nutrients may help keep your prostate healthy naturally. Eat at least five servings of vegetables and fruits per day. Choose fruits and vegetables from all color categories (green, yellow, orange, red, purple, and white) to get a good variety of prostate-healthy phytochemicals.
Drink Tea
Both green tea and hibiscus tea are among the top drinks for prostate health. Both types of tea contain potent antioxidants. Studies show that green tea can help prevent prostate cancer from forming and may also slow the growth of aggressive prostate cancer. Studies show that green tea can also benefit men with BPH and prostatitis.
Cut back on the fats
High fat diets have been correlated with higher incidence of prostate cancer and BPH. Beef and dairy products specifically may also increase your risk for developing BPH. Instead, opt for whole foods with plenty of antioxidant rich fruits and vegetables.
Maintain healthy body weight
We now know that healthy eating and exercise can improve prostate health. But specifically maintaining a healthy body mass index can help to prevent prostate disease. Obesity has been shown to increase both incidence of prostate cancer and morbidity associated with prostate cancer.
Reduce Stress
BPH symptoms are stressful enough, but stress and anxiety in general can make you feel the need to urinate even more frequently. Managing your stress can break this cycle. Getting a daily dose of exercise is one of the best remedies for stress and BPH. You can also try stress reduction techniques like meditation, yoga, and focused breathing.
